On the morning of September 20, 2018, a shooting occurred at a Rite Aid distribution center in Aberdeen, Maryland, leaving four people dead, including the perpetrator. According to Wikipedia's account of the incident, the shooter, a temporary worker at the facility, arrived at 6:30 a.m. to report to work. An altercation occurred after she cut in line to clock in. She left the facility at 7:21 a.m. and returned to the parking lot at 8:35 a.m., bringing a Glock handgun, pepper spray, handcuffs, and three magazines. She reentered the building at 8:53 a.m.
At 9:05 a.m., during a break period, the shooter exited through the front door, pulled a hood over her head, and drew the handgun. She first fired at a group standing outside the building, fatally shooting Sunday Aguda. She then reentered the building and shot Hayleen Reyes to death in the lobby. She proceeded to a break room where employees were eating breakfast, opening fire and killing Brindra Giri while wounding three men. After the break room shooting, she killed herself with two shots to the head.
The Harford County Sheriff's Office reported that "shots fired" calls came from the distribution center at approximately 9:06 a.m. EDT, with deputies responding by 9:09 a.m. Officers who responded reportedly never discharged their weapons. Agents from the Baltimore offices of the ATF and the FBI also responded to the scene.
Victims were transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital in Baltimore and Christiana Hospital in Delaware. Two victims died at the scene and two died at the hospital, one of whom was later confirmed to be the shooter, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center's Trauma Director stated the hospital received four gunshot victims, with two stable and two seriously injured as of 2:30 p.m. ET that day.
The Harford County Sheriff's Office identified the shooter as Snochia Moseley, 26, of Baltimore County, a temporary worker at the facility. Reporting cited by the Wikipedia article noted that Moseley had reportedly experienced mental illness and emotional difficulties related to her struggle with sexual identity, according to authorities and a close friend, and that friends reportedly referred to her as a transgender male.
In the aftermath, a reunification center was established at a fire department in Havre de Grace. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan issued a statement of condolence via Twitter. Rite Aid released a statement pledging cooperation with authorities and offering grief counseling to affected employees.
