Disappearance of Taylor Casey

Taylor Casey is an American missing person from Chicago who disappeared on June 19, 2024. Born July 11, 1982, Casey is a transgender woman of color, a youth advocate, and a veteran of the United States Army who had worked as a yoga instructor since approximately 2009. The fact that Casey was transgender was originally kept private by her family, due to fears of discrimination.
In the summer of 2024, Casey traveled to the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat on Paradise Island, described as a resort island in the Bahamas near Nassau. Her visit to the island followed a January 16, 2024, travel warning regarding sex crimes in the country. Casey was last seen on the evening of June 18, 2024. In the last conversation between Casey and her mother, Collette Seymore, before Casey went missing, Seymore recalled sensing fear in her daughter's voice. That same day, an unidentified man was noticed near Casey; he was carrying a walkie-talkie and wearing a Boston Celtics baseball cap and black clothing.
Casey was reported missing on June 19, 2024, after she failed to attend her scheduled yoga classes. She was confirmed as a missing person by the Royal Bahamas Police Force on June 20, 2024.
In late July 2024, authorities recovered Casey's iPhone and a journal belonging to her from the water, after being led to the items' location by a search dog. Casey's family requested that the Federal Bureau of Investigation search for her, citing possible discrimination from the Bahamas Police Force. Public support for Casey came from Illinois senator Tammy Duckworth, the Embassy of the United States in Nassau, and the Brave Space Alliance. Casey's family placed a $10,000 reward for information regarding her whereabouts.
Casey has not been located, and her disappearance remains an open case.
