Disappearance and death of Christina Morris

UNSOLVED2014Plano, Texas7 SOURCESUPDATED JUL 2026
Illustrative

Christina Marie Morris, 23, disappeared in the early hours of August 30, 2014, after a night out in Plano, Texas. Surveillance video showed Morris entering a parking garage at The Shops at Legacy with an acquaintance, Enrique Arochi, at about 3:55 a.m. Arochi's car left minutes later; Morris's own car remained parked, and she was not seen again.

Investigators focused on Arochi after reviewing the garage video. Cell-tower records indicated that their telephones remained in the same area beyond the time he said they had separated, and forensic testing found Morris's DNA in his car. Plano police arrested Arochi on December 13, 2014, and charged him with aggravated kidnapping.

At trial, prosecutors presented the video, cell records, and DNA evidence. The defense disputed the inferences and reliability of the evidence. On September 21, 2016, a Collin County jury found Arochi guilty of aggravated kidnapping. A judge sentenced him to life in prison, with parole eligibility after at least 30 years.

On March 7, 2018, a construction crew found human remains near Anna, Texas. The next day, Plano police announced that DNA and dental comparisons had identified them as Morris's. Officials did not publicly disclose a cause of death. Police said in that 2018 announcement that they would continue working with the Collin County District Attorney's Office, but that dated statement does not establish the investigation's present status.

The Fifth Court of Appeals affirmed Arochi's aggravated-kidnapping conviction and life sentence in July 2018. He was not convicted of murder, and no murder charge has been filed in Morris's death. The case is therefore classified as unsolved with respect to her death while preserving the adjudicated kidnapping conviction.
