
In November 2014, Potiskum in Yobe State, Nigeria was the site of two separate terrorist attacks involving suicide bombers. Boko Haram has been accused of carrying out both incidents, which together killed at least 61 people and injured scores of others.
The first attack occurred on 3 November 2014, when a suicide bomber targeted Shia Muslims who were marching to mark the Day of Ashura. At least 15 people were killed in the attack, and around fifty others were injured. Security forces shot and killed five additional people in the aftermath of the bombing.
The second attack took place a week later, on 10 November 2014, when a suicide bomber struck the Government Science Secondary School in Potiskum. The bombing occurred as students had assembled in the school hall. The bomber reportedly gained entry to the school by wearing a school uniform. This attack was more deadly than the first, killing at least 46 people and wounding 79 others. In the wake of the bombing, the state governor ordered the closure of all public schools in the area.
