
On 6 December 2015, a car bomb attack in Aden, Yemen, killed the city's governor, Major General Jaafar Mohammed Saad, along with members of his entourage. Saad's caravan was traveling to his office in a western district of Aden when the attack occurred.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Yemen branch claimed responsibility for the bombing. ISIL stated that the bomb was detonated as Saad's convoy passed the location where the explosive-laden car had been parked.
The explosion was described as powerful, reportedly audible from as far as 10 kilometers away. Six of Saad's bodyguards were killed in the attack, and several other people were injured.
ISIL subsequently released a video through its "Aden-Abyan Province" media wing, of which the bombing was described as a part.
No named individual has been publicly identified as charged or convicted in connection with the bombing.
