On the night of April 15, 2021, a shooting took place at a FedEx Ground facility in southwestern Indianapolis, Indiana, near Indianapolis International Airport. At the time, roughly 100 people were inside the building, many changing shifts or on lunch break. The gunman, later identified as 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole, first entered the facility to speak with security before returning to his vehicle, then emerged with a rifle and began firing on employees in the parking lot. He proceeded to the building's entrance and fired at employees through a turnstile before returning outside. One employee attempted to return fire with a handgun but missed. The shooting ended when Hole re-entered the building and died by suicide. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers who responded found him already dead, with two rifles at the scene.

Eight people were killed, in addition to the perpetrator. The victims, ranging in age from 19 to 74, were Matthew Alexander, 32; Samaria Blackwell, 19; Amarjeet Johal, 66; Jasvinder Kaur, 50; Amarjit Sekhon, 48; Jaswinder Singh, 68; Karli Smith, 19; and John Weisert, 74. Four of the eight victims were members of the local Sikh community, which reportedly made up about 90% of the facility's workforce according to the local police chief. Four other individuals were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, one in critical condition, and additional people were treated for injuries sustained during the incident.

Hole was a former FedEx employee who had been fired in October 2020 for absenteeism. He had a documented history of behavioral and mental health issues dating from childhood, including diagnoses of disruptive behavior disorder, anxiety disorder, and autism spectrum disorder, and had been arrested at age 11 for attacking his mother. In March 2020, his mother alerted authorities that he intended to commit suicide by cop and had purchased a shotgun; police seized the weapon and placed him on a temporary mental health hold, during which an officer observed what appeared to be white supremacist material on his computer. The FBI later questioned him but closed the inquiry for insufficient evidence of a chargeable offense. Indiana's red flag law, which could have blocked firearm purchases for at least six months, was not fully invoked by Marion County prosecutors, allowing Hole to legally purchase two AR-15-style rifles in mid-to-late 2020 that he used in the shooting. The FBI concluded the shooting was an "act of suicidal murder" motivated by a desire to prove masculinity and experience killing.

The shooting prompted national reactions, including remarks from President Joe Biden, who ordered flags flown at half-mast and renewed calls for an assault weapons ban. Local officials, including Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, held vigils, and the Sikh Coalition called for investigation into whether bias contributed to the attack given four victims were Sikh and Hole had browsed white supremacist content. Scrutiny also fell on Indiana's red flag law enforcement and FedEx's no-personal-phone policy, which reportedly hindered efforts to call for help during the shooting. In 2022, memorial trees were planted for the victims, and in April 2023, victims and families filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer and distributor of the high-capacity magazine used in the attack.
