Asha Kreimer, born May 2, 1989, held dual United States and Australian citizenship and had been living with her boyfriend in Albion, California, for three years before her disappearance. In September 2015, Kreimer experienced a mental health crisis after being awake for several days and shouting incoherently. On September 20, 2015, she was taken to Mendocino Coast District Hospital in Fort Bragg, California, where a contractor overseeing mental health services for Mendocino County was expected to evaluate her under California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 5150 to determine whether she posed a risk to herself or others. Kreimer resisted having her vital signs taken, prompting the Fort Bragg Police Department to be called. She was ultimately released without a formal evaluation or treatment, into the custody of her boyfriend and an Australian childhood friend who was visiting.

The following day, September 21, 2015, the three drove south toward Point Arena and stopped at the Rollerville Cafe in Flumeville. At approximately 9:30 a.m., Kreimer's friend got up to use the restroom, and Kreimer followed a few seconds later, though the friend did not notice her behind her. When the friend returned to the table, she learned from Kreimer's boyfriend that Kreimer had gone to follow her, but the friend stated she never saw Kreimer in the restroom. Investigators believe Kreimer likely never entered the bathroom and instead wandered off. At the time of her disappearance, she was barefoot and wearing black skinny jeans and a gray hoodie. She had no money, credit cards, or identification with her, and it remains debated whether she left her cell phone behind. Her jacket was later discovered along the road leading to the Point Arena Light.

In the years following her disappearance, there have been unconfirmed reports regarding Kreimer's whereabouts. A spokesman for the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office stated that she reportedly returned to her Albion home to retrieve her German shepherd, and a surfer in Gualala, south of the cafe, reported seeing her around 3 p.m. on the day she vanished. As of February 2016, friends in her ancestral hometown of Alice Springs, Australia, were raising funds to continue the search. As of April 2018, Kreimer's mother reportedly continued to travel from Australia to California every few months to search for her daughter. Kreimer's family has also reported to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office the possibility that she may have adopted an assumed name in connection with her reported mental health crisis.

In 2017, Kreimer's mother, Jeannie, was approached by Netflix regarding a potential story about her daughter's case. Kreimer's disappearance has also been covered by the Thin Air Podcast. As of the available reporting, no definitive proof of Kreimer's fate or whereabouts has been discovered, and the case remains unresolved.
