Disappearance of Lisa Stebic

Lisa Michelle Stebic, née Ruttenberg, was born May 19, 1969. She went missing from her home in Plainfield, Illinois, on April 30, 2007. She is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, and has two visible tattoos — a small rose on her ankle and a large butterfly on her lower back.
The case drew widespread news coverage in the years following her disappearance. Her husband, Craig Stebic, refused to speak with police or assist in the investigation or search efforts. He has never been named a suspect by police, though he has been referred to as a "person of interest" in his wife's disappearance.
The case became entangled in a separate media controversy when the local CBS affiliate, WBBM-TV, broadcast video of a rival station's reporter, Amy Jacobson, at the Stebic home wearing a bikini. Jacobson, along with Craig Stebic's sister Jill Webb and her husband Robert Webb, subsequently filed lawsuits against WBBM over the airing of that video.
In October 2007, the FBI added photographs of Lisa Stebic and information about her disappearance to its kidnapped and missing persons website. Her photo and case information were also shown on national television at the close of the October 11, 2007, broadcast of the CBS drama "Without a Trace," which focused on a fictional FBI missing-persons unit, and the case was further detailed the following morning on "The Early Show."
As of 2026, Lisa Stebic remains a missing person, and her disappearance is unresolved.
