Rob Reiner, a 78-year-old American actor and film director, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, a 70-year-old photographer and producer, were found dead at their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, on December 14, 2025. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner determined that both had died of multiple sharp force injuries and ruled the manner of death for each a homicide.

Emergency services were called to the residence on the afternoon of December 14. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics found the couple dead, and the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division took over the investigation. The couple's son, Nick Reiner, who was 32 at the time, was arrested later that day.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charged Nick Reiner with two counts of first-degree murder, together with a special-circumstance allegation of multiple murders. He was ordered held in custody without bail. At an initial court appearance on December 17, 2025, no plea was entered. On February 23, 2026, Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors said that a decision on whether to seek the death penalty had not yet been made. He has not been convicted, and the case remained before the courts through mid-2026, with pretrial hearings continuing.

Rob Reiner first became widely known as an actor before building a directing career that included This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally..., Misery, and A Few Good Men. He was also active in Democratic politics and public advocacy. Michele Singer Reiner worked as a photographer and producer and was an advocate for LGBTQ rights. The couple married in 1989 and had three children.

Much of the early reporting drew on statements from law enforcement, the District Attorney's Office, and the Medical Examiner; some accounts of the family's circumstances were attributed to unnamed sources. The deaths drew extensive national attention given Rob Reiner's decades-long prominence in American film.
