Amie Harwick, a Los Angeles marriage and family therapist and author, was strangled and thrown from her third-floor Hollywood Hills balcony on February 15, 2020, by an ex-boyfriend who had a history of stalking her. He was convicted of first-degree murder in 2023 and sentenced to life without parole.

On June 12, 1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were stabbed to death outside Brown's Brentwood, Los Angeles condominium. Brown's ex-husband O. J. Simpson was charged with the murders, led police on a widely televised chase, and was later acquitted at criminal trial but found liable for both deaths in a subsequent civil suit.

On June 5, 1968, U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy was shot by Sirhan Sirhan at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles shortly after winning the California Democratic presidential primary; he died the next day. Sirhan was convicted of murder in 1969 and remains incarcerated.

Susan Berman, a journalist and the daughter of a Las Vegas organized-crime figure, was found shot to death in her rented Los Angeles home on Christmas Eve 2000. Her longtime friend Robert Durst was convicted of her murder in 2021, more than two decades after the killing.

Reet Silvia Jurvetson, a 19-year-old Estonian-Canadian woman, was stabbed to death in November 1969 and left in a ravine off Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles. She remained unidentified for 46 years — known only as "Sherry Doe" and later "Jane Doe 59" — until a DNA match confirmed her identity in 2016. The case remains unsolved; the Los Angeles Police Department's most likely suspect is an unidentified man she had traveled from Canada to meet.

Ezell Ford, a 25-year-old African-American man, was shot and killed by two LAPD officers in Florence, Los Angeles on August 11, 2014. A city oversight review later found one officer had acted within policy while the other had violated Ford's civil rights, but no criminal charges were filed against either officer.
