Murder of Agnieszka Kotlarska

Agnieszka Kotlarska was a Polish model who won Miss Poland and Miss International in 1991. By 1996, she had returned to Wrocław after working internationally and was raising a young daughter with her husband. Polish reporting describes persistent unwanted attention from a man before the fatal encounter.
On August 27, 1996, Kotlarska and her family were preparing to leave their home by car when the man approached and demanded to speak with her. The confrontation escalated after her husband moved to summon police. The assailant wounded her husband and fatally stabbed Kotlarska when she intervened. She was 24.
Polish court reporting identifies the convicted man only as Jerzy L., consistent with local privacy practice. In January 1998, Rzeczpospolita reported that the Wrocław provincial court convicted him of killing Kotlarska and injuring her husband. The trial court imposed 14 years in prison and five years' loss of public rights.
A later retrospective reports that an appellate court increased the prison sentence to 15 years. Reporting also states that Jerzy L. was released in 2012 after serving the sentence. The 14- and 15-year figures therefore describe different procedural stages rather than conflicting accounts of one judgment.
The partial surname is retained, and no unrelated later allegation is used to characterize the living former prisoner. The location is limited to Wrocław in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and does not identify the private residence.
