Killing of Maggie Long

Maggie Long was a 17-year-old high-school senior from Bailey, Colorado. On December 1, 2017, emergency personnel responded to a fire at her family's home on County Road 43 and found her remains after the fire was extinguished. The El Paso County Coroner's Office ruled her death a homicide. Investigators concluded that a struggle occurred before the fire and that firearms, ammunition, a safe, and other property were taken from the house.
The FBI and Colorado authorities have continued to seek information about the people responsible. Public agencies have said they believe more than one person participated, but no one has been arrested or charged. Those investigative beliefs are not adjudicated findings, so Maggie is the only person represented in the structured people list.
On February 20, 2026, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation expressly clarified that the state-led Maggie Long Task Force remained active. CBI said that deactivation of an older website did not mean the investigation had gone cold and warned the public about misinformation concerning the case. The agency also reported that the available reward had increased to $75,000 as of that update.
The case is therefore classified as ongoing, not cold. The status and reward are dated to the February 2026 CBI statement because both can change. The FBI's seeking-information page remains a separate public avenue for tips, and Colorado Public Radio's earlier reporting documents the continuing public effort to identify those responsible.
