Murder of Raymond Green

Raymond “Ray” Green, 62, lived with his former wife, Danielle Green, on rural property near Dillsboro, Indiana. Although they had divorced for financial reasons, they continued living together. On May 26, 2014, Danielle Green shot Raymond ten times in the mobile home they shared and placed his body in a large metal storage box outside. Danielle Green told relatives and friends that the couple's German shepherd had killed Raymond. His mother found the account suspicious and contacted law enforcement. Officers conducting a welfare check did not find Raymond or the dog, but they noticed a locked metal box on the property. Green permitted a broader search while withholding consent to open that box. After obtaining warrants, investigators opened it and found Raymond's body. [CBS News](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cowboy-ray-green-death-ex-wife-danielle-48-hours/)
An autopsy classified the death as homicide. Danielle Green was arrested on June 3, 2014, and charged with murder. She acknowledged the shooting but said she acted in self-defense after abuse and threats. Prosecutors challenged that account with physical evidence, including blood-pattern testimony and bullet trajectories that they argued did not match her reconstruction. Evidence at trial supported the state's theory that Raymond had been shot while lying down. An Ohio County jury found Danielle Green guilty of murder in 2015. The court sentenced her to 60 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. In December 2016, the Indiana Court of Appeals affirmed both the conviction and sentence. It rejected challenges involving excluded psychological testimony, blood-pattern evidence, the trial court's treatment of Green's domestic-abuse claim, and the length of the sentence. [Green v. The case is classified as solved because the murder conviction and sentence were affirmed on direct appeal. It uses Raymond Green's full name in the title while retaining “Ray Green,” the name used in much of the reporting, as an alternate name.
