On August 30, 2021, Normal police responded to an active-shooter report at the Landings mobile home park in Normal, Illinois. The gunman killed Sharon Reiner, 64, and Julie Davis, 59, and wounded three men.

Officers found the armed gunman near the victims. According to the McLean County state's attorney's preliminary report and local reporting based on body-camera footage, he approached officers while firing and pointed his gun toward them. Officers then shot and killed him. Authorities identified him as Ronald Reiner, 66.

The state's attorney concluded that the officers' use of deadly force was legally justified. Authorities reported no additional suspects, and the motive remained unknown.
