Death of Maxwell Azzarello

Maxwell Azzarello was a 37-year-old man from St. Augustine, Florida. On April 19, 2024, he went to Collect Pond Park in Lower Manhattan, across from the courthouse where Donald Trump's criminal trial was taking place, and set himself on fire. Police, court officers, civilians, and emergency personnel responded and extinguished the flames.

Azzarello was transported to a hospital in critical condition and died later that day. The New York Police Department said he appeared to have acted alone and did not appear to be targeting Trump or any other particular person or group.
