2017 Saint Petersburg Metro bombing — the full case file

Investigators first misidentified a missing Kazakh student as the St. Petersburg Metro bomber — he was actually a victim. A bomb detonated on a Saint Petersburg Metro train on 3 April 2017, killing 15 people and injuring dozens; a second device was found and defused at another station, and Akbarzhon Jalilov was identified as the suspected suicide bomber. On April 3, 2017, an explosive device detonates on a train between Sennaya Ploshchad and Tekhnologichesky Institut stations on the Saint Petersburg Metro; a second device is found and defused at Ploshchad Vosstaniya station. On April 3, 2017, Fifteen people are ultimately confirmed dead (ten during the attack, five later from injuries); at least 64 people reported injured. On April 17, 2017, FSB announces the detention in Moscow of Abror Azimov, alleged to have trained the suicide attacker. On April 26, 2017, a group calling itself the Imam Shamil Battalion claims responsibility for the attack in a statement posted by SITE Intelligence Group. The case is recorded as solved.
