2017 Westminster attack — the full case file

On 22 March 2017, Khalid Masood drove a car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, killing four, before fatally stabbing an unarmed police officer at the Palace of Westminster and being shot dead by police. On March 23, 2017, Amaq News Agency, linked to the Islamic State, claims Masood acted on the group's calls; UK police and Home Secretary Amber Rudd question the claim. West Midlands Police and Metropolitan Police begin raids in Birmingham and East London under Operation Classific. On March 25, 2017, Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu announces investigators believe Masood acted alone. On March 29, 2017, Inquests for the deceased victims are opened and adjourned under the Senior Coroner for Westminster, Fiona Wilcox. On March 30, 2017, Inquest into Masood's death is opened and adjourned. On April 1, 2017, All twelve people arrested after the attack are released without charge. On April 6, 2017, the Romanian tourist thrown into the River Thames during the attack dies in hospital after her life support is withdrawn. On October 12, 2018, Inquest jury finds Masood was lawfully killed by close protection officer SA74. On March 22, 2022, Memorial service held and memorial plaque installed on Westminster Bridge on the fifth anniversary of the attack. The case is recorded as solved.
