2015 Zvornik police station shooting
Documents violence · ongoing investigation — written to inform, not to shock.

On the evening of April 27, 2015, at approximately 19:00, a man later identified as Nerdin Ibrić drove to the police station in Zvornik, a town in the Republika Srpska entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ibrić, born in 1991 in Sapna near Zvornik, was told by a sentry that he could not park in front of the station. He then produced a rifle and opened fire on the officer. Police officer Dragan Đurić was struck by multiple bullets and killed. Ibrić then entered the station and continued shooting, wounding two other officers, who were transferred to a local hospital. Ibrić was shot dead by police during the attack. Authorities stated the attack appeared to have been well-planned, noting that Ibrić seemed to know when officers' shifts changed and began his attack at a time when the most police personnel would be present inside the station.
Reports on whether Ibrić shouted "Allahu akbar" during the attack were initially inconsistent among Bosnian-language news portals, with some early reports citing only profanities and threats before later reporting that he had also shouted the phrase.
Following the shooting, the Minister of Interior of Republika Srpska, Dragan Lukač, said the assailant was probably a Wahhabist and characterized the shooting as an act of terrorism. The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, criticized state-level police and security agencies for allegedly failing to share information about potential terrorist plots ahead of the attack. It was later noted that Bosnia's Intelligence-Security Agency (OSA-OBA) had, three days before the shooting, informed police agencies of a possible terrorist attack in retaliation for the arrest of individuals of Bosniak origin in Australia in connection with planned attacks there. Ibrić was buried on April 30, 2015, in Kučić Kula near Zvornik, with several hundred people attending his funeral.
On the day of the shooting, Bosnia's State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) arrested Ibrić's friend, Avdulah Hasanović, who had previously been detained in a separate anti-terrorism operation and was known to have participated in the Syrian Civil War in 2014. Another associate, Kasim Mehidić, was also arrested. Both were later handed to the State Attorney of Bosnia and Herzegovina and ordered detained for one month on suspicion of recruiting Ibrić for the attack. The investigation subsequently expanded to other suspected radical Islamists.
The Presidency and Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with the Government of Republika Srpska, characterized the shooting as terrorism, as did the United States Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Office of the High Representative condemned the attack without describing it as terrorism. A Sarajevo-based newspaper raised a possible motive tied to a 1992 mass killing of Bosniaks in Zvornik in which Ibrić's father was reportedly among the victims; officials disputed related claims about a 2004 government report cited in that context.
