The attacks occurred shortly after 1:00 pm local time (12:00 GMT). According to reporting, at least 86 people were killed and 58 others were injured in the twin blasts.

The bombers were reported to be young boys. No group formally claimed responsibility for the attack, but blame was attributed to the Boko Haram Islamist extremist group, which has carried out numerous attacks in northeastern Nigeria in preceding years.
