Murder of Glory Chau and Moon Siu

Glory Chau Wing-ki (65) and Moon Siu Yuet-yee (63) were a married couple killed in the Kok Cheung Street area of Tai Kok Tsui, Hong Kong, presumably on 1 March 2013. Their youngest son, Henry Chau Hoi-leung, then 29, and his friend Angus Tse Chun-kei, then 35, were later indicted for the killings, which they initially denied.
After the couple went missing, their two sons filed a missing persons report and, on 13 March 2013, approached Apple Daily to publicize the disappearance, stating they had not heard from their parents since 2 March and that the parents had said they planned to travel to mainland China. The brothers created a Facebook page seeking public information. On 14 March 2013, Henry Chau was called in for further police questioning; during this interview he texted a WhatsApp group and confessed to the killings, describing details and motives. On 15 March 2013, Chau and Tse were indicted for killing and dismembering Chau's parents inside Tse's flat in the Hoi Hing Building on Kok Cheung Street. Investigators recovered the victims' dismembered remains at the flat. According to accounts shown to the jury, Henry Chau admitted his role in the killings; the prosecution alleged Angus Tse had also taken part, but the jury later acquitted Tse of both murders.
The Court of First Instance trial, HKSAR v. Chau Henry and Another, began on 4 August 2014 before High Court Deputy Judge Michael Stuart-Moore, with jury difficulties requiring the case to restart with a fresh jury in August 2014. The trial resumed in February 2015. The defense for Henry Chau argued diminished responsibility based on mental instability; a defense psychiatrist diagnosed him with bipolar disorder and obsessive–compulsive disorder. A psychiatric consultant testified that Chau's IQ was 126, compared with Tse's 84, raising the possibility that Chau had manipulated Tse.
On 20 March 2015, a jury found Henry Chau guilty of double murder and found Angus Tse not guilty on both murder counts. The judge described Chau as "an extremely dangerous man" and "an actor" who would lie to anybody. Chau was sentenced to life imprisonment. Tse was sentenced to one year for preventing the lawful burial of the bodies and, having already spent two years on remand, was released immediately.
The case drew extensive media coverage in Hong Kong due to the nature of the crime and was later adapted into television and film dramatizations, including the 2017 miniseries Stained, the 2018 TVB drama OMG, Your Honour, and the 2022 film The Sparring Partner.
