Michele Brown was a 25-year-old woman who disappeared on 1 March 1992 in Frankston, Victoria, Australia.
On the day she disappeared, Brown telephoned her mother from a shop on Frankston-Dandenong Road, several kilometres from Frankston railway station, asking to be collected, and said she expected to be at the station by 8:00 p.m. How she travelled from the shop to the station area is not known. A taxi driver later told investigators he saw someone matching Brown's description near the station between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., and a resident living near where she was later found reported hearing screams shortly afterward.
When Brown did not arrive, her mother reported her missing some days later. Her body was found on 14 March 1992, 13 days after she disappeared, behind a gun shop in Frankston by an employee who noticed a smell coming from a shed on the property. Due to the state of decomposition, a definitive cause of death could not be established, though she is presumed to have been murdered.
Investigators established that Brown had previously visited the shed and believed she may have known the person responsible; they have also indicated a belief that more than one person has knowledge of the circumstances of her death. In 2022, thirty years after her death, Victoria Police announced a reward of A$1 million for information leading to those responsible. No one has been charged, and the case remains unsolved.
