Three women — Sherrill Levitt, her daughter Suzanne "Suzie" Streeter, and Streeter's friend Stacy McCall — vanished from Levitt's Springfield, Missouri home overnight on June 6-7, 1992, leaving behind cars, purses, and other belongings. None have ever been found and the case remains unsolved.

On July 6, 2024, Sangamon County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Grayson fatally shot Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old unarmed Black woman, inside her Woodside Township, Illinois home after she called 911 about a possible prowler. Grayson was convicted of second-degree murder in October 2025 and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Donnah Winger was killed with a hammer in her Springfield, Illinois home in August 1995, alongside shuttle driver Roger Harrington, whom her husband Mark Winger shot and claimed had murdered her. Years later, investigators concluded Mark Winger had staged the scene, and he was convicted in 2002 of both murders.
