On 21 February 1995, Ibrahim Ali Abdallah, a 17-year-old French citizen of Comorian descent, was shot and killed in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille, France. That night, three supporters of the far-right Front National travelled through immigrant neighbourhoods of northern Marseille to post campaign material for their party's presidential candidate. Near the Quatre-Chemins intersection on Avenue des Aygalades, they encountered a group of about ten Afro-French young people, members of the rap group B. Vice, who were running to catch the last scheduled bus home after rehearsing at the Mirabeau cultural center for a solidarity concert. One of the three men drew a .22 calibre pistol and fired. Ali was struck once in the back, and the bullet reached his heart; he collapsed and said 'Ils m'ont eu' ('They got me') before dying of blood loss. A second man fired several shots from a 7.65 mm pistol without hitting anyone, and nine shots were fired in total. Ali, a resident of the La Savine estate, was buried at the Saint-Pierre cemetery.

The killing prompted protests across France, drawing a reported peak of 30,000 demonstrators in Marseille. The man who fired the fatal shot initially claimed the young people had thrown stones at his car and that he had defended himself, but investigators reported finding no damage to his windshield and no rocks at the intersection where the car had been parked. The Front National publicly supported the three men and formed an association to assist them, while party figures disputed the account of what had happened and, at trial, declined to apologise to Ali's family.

During the proceedings, the man who fired the fatal shot maintained that the gun had discharged accidentally and denied holding racist views. Relatives testified otherwise: a granddaughter said he had taken her to shooting ranges from the age of eight for what he called training in how to 'shoot Arabs', and a daughter-in-law said he routinely referred to North Africans with racial slurs. In June 1998, the Bouches-du-Rhone Assize Court convicted him of murder and sentenced him to 15 years in prison; he had been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer while detained. A co-defendant was convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to 10 years, and a third man received a two-year sentence for illegally carrying a firearm in his car.

Efforts to commemorate Ali continued for years. Proposals to mark 21 February in his memory were unsuccessful until 2015, when a memorial plaque was installed at the site. In February 2021, the city council renamed Avenue des Aygalades as Avenue Ibrahim-Ali. In 2024, the Ibrahim Ali Price was established in his honour to recognise communal work by schoolchildren.
