Between August 1992 and May 1999, twelve people were killed in a series of murders in and around Adelaide, South Australia, committed by John Justin Bunting, Robert Joe Wagner, and James Spyridon Vlassakis. A fourth man, Mark Haydon, was convicted of helping dispose of the victims' bodies. Most remains were discovered in barrels inside a disused bank vault in the town of Snowtown, roughly 140 kilometres north of Adelaide, giving rise to the media label "bodies in barrels murders," although only one victim was actually killed in Snowtown itself.

Victims were selected by Bunting based on his often unfounded suspicions that they were paedophiles, homosexual, or otherwise "weak," as well as personal dislikes related to weight, drug use, or perceived social undesirability. Most victims knew at least one member of the group as a friend, family member, or housemate. Several murders involved prolonged torture, and victims' identification documents, bank accounts, and social security payments were exploited by the perpetrators to collect ongoing welfare and pension payments, totaling approximately A$97,200, though this is not believed to have been the primary motive.

The victims were Clinton Trezise (1992), Ray Davies (1995), Suzanne Allen (approx. 1996), Michelle Gardiner (1997), Vanessa Lane (1997), Thomas Trevilyan (1997), Gavin Porter (1997), Troy Youde (1997), Frederick Brooks (1998), Gary O'Dwyer (1998), Elizabeth Haydon (1998), and David Johnson (1999). Trevilyan's death was initially ruled a suicide by a coroner given his history of prior attempts and mental illness, though he had assisted the group in killing Lane.

Investigation into Elizabeth Haydon's disappearance led South Australian Police to the disused bank vault in Snowtown, where the remains of eight victims were discovered in barrels in May 1999. Two additional bodies were later found buried at a former residence of Bunting's in Adelaide. Bunting, Wagner, and Haydon were arrested and charged on 21 May 1999; Vlassakis was arrested on 26 May 1999.

The subsequent trial, lasting almost twelve months, was among the longest and most publicised in Australian legal history, with more than 250 suppression orders restricting reporting. In September 2003, Bunting was convicted of eleven murders and Wagner of ten. Vlassakis pleaded guilty to four murders and testified for the prosecution. In 2004, Haydon was convicted on five counts of assisting with the murders; a jury deadlocked on two murder charges against him, which were not retried after his guilty plea to related disposal offences. A separate murder charge against Bunting and Wagner regarding Suzanne Allen was dropped in 2007 after a jury failed to reach a verdict.

Bunting received 11 consecutive terms of life imprisonment without parole; Wagner received 10 consecutive such terms. Vlassakis was sentenced to four consecutive life terms with a non-parole period of 26 years, and Haydon to 25 years with an 18-year non-parole period. Haydon was released on parole in 2024. In August 2025, a decision to grant Vlassakis parole was overturned on review, and he remains imprisoned.
