    Death of Francisco Martínez

    Francisco Martínez, a 27-year-old street juggler, was fatally shot by a Chilean police officer during an identity check in Panguipulli on February 5, 2021, sparking days of protests and riots across Chile; a Chilean court later ruled the officer acted in legitimate self-defense.

    Murder of Hans Pozo

    Hans Hernán Pozo Vergara, a 20-year-old Chilean man, was murdered and dismembered in Santiago in March 2006, with his remains discovered across multiple sites in Puente Alto and San Bernardo. The sole suspect, businessman Jorge Iván Martínez Arévalo, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a police visit, and in 2007 prosecutors concluded he was the intellectual author of the crime.

    Killings of María José Reyes and Juan Duarte

    In July 2012, María José Reyes Moore and Juan René Duarte Becerra were killed and decapitated days apart at an antique shop in Lolol, Chile. The shop's owner, Óscar Segundo López Rodríguez, was shot and killed by a responding police officer at the scene of the second attack.

    Death of Eduardo Frei Montalva

    Former Chilean President Eduardo Frei Montalva died in January 1982 following complications from surgery. Years later, judicial investigations concluded he had been poisoned; six people were convicted of homicide in 2019, but Chilean appellate and Supreme Court rulings later overturned the convictions, finding he was not a homicide victim.

    Seguro Obrero massacre

    On 5 September 1938, Chilean police (carabineros) summarily executed 59 members of the National Socialist Movement of Chile (Nacistas) after they surrendered following a failed coup attempt in Santiago, along with two Seguro Obrero building employees killed in the confusion.
