On 7 February 2003, a car bomb containing 200 kg of explosives detonated in a parking garage of the El Nogal Club in Bogotá, Colombia, killing 36 people and wounding more than 200 in one of the worst attacks in the country in over a decade.

A truck bomb detonated outside the DAS (Administrative Department of Security) headquarters in Bogotá on December 6, 1989, killing 57 people and injuring over 2,000 in what is widely believed to have been a Medellín Cartel attempt to assassinate DAS director Miguel Maza Márquez.

On 17 January 2019, a vehicle laden with explosives was driven into the General Santander National Police Academy in Bogotá, Colombia, and detonated, killing 22 people, including the perpetrator, and injuring 68 others. The National Liberation Army (ELN) claimed responsibility.

Colombian footballer Andrés Escobar was shot six times outside a Medellín nightclub in July 1994, five days after an own goal contributed to Colombia's elimination from the World Cup; Humberto Castro Muñoz confessed to the killing and was convicted of murder in 1995.
