On 13 July 2011, three coordinated bomb blasts struck Mumbai's Opera House, Zaveri Bazaar, and Dadar West within minutes of each other, killing 26 people and injuring 130. Investigators attributed the attack to the Indian Mujahideen network, with charges filed against multiple accused, including its co-founder Yasin Bhatkal.

On 11 July 1997, State Reserve Police Force members opened fire on Dalit protesters in the Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar colony in Mumbai after a statue of B. R. Ambedkar was desecrated, killing 10 people and injuring 26.

A bomb placed under a seat of a BEST bus exploded near Ghatkopar railway station in Mumbai on 2 December 2002, killing two people and injuring more than 50. A second unexploded bomb was later defused on another bus in Andheri.
