Illustrative

On 14 February 2001, a vehicular attack occurred near Azor, Israel, at a bus stop where a group of Israeli soldiers had gathered. The attacker, identified as 35-year-old Khalil Abu Alba from Gaza, drove a bus into the group, killing eight people—seven soldiers and one civilian—and injuring 26 others.

According to the Wikipedia account of the attack, Abu Alba had worked as an Egged bus driver for five years prior to the incident, regularly transporting Arab workers each morning from Gaza toward Tel Aviv. On the day of the attack, after completing his usual route dropping off workers in Lod and Ramle, he drove toward Holon. Upon reaching Azor junction, he reportedly noticed the group of Israeli soldiers waiting at a bus stop, accelerated the bus, and swerved sharply to the right, striking dozens of people.

Following the attack, Abu Alba drove the bus southward toward Gaza. The vehicle was eventually stopped approximately 30 kilometers away after it crashed into a truck; police officers had shot at the bus's wheels in an effort to halt it.

The Islamist militant organization Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.
