2006 San Miguel shooting

On the morning of 3 May 2006, at approximately 10:00 a.m. local time, a shooting took place at the offices of the La Primera de Grand Bourg bus company in San Miguel, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Eugenio Villela, a 55-year-old former employee and one-time manager of the company, drove to the offices in his Ford Fiesta. After greeting former co-workers on the ground floor, he went upstairs to a meeting room where senior staff were discussing company matters. Villela entered the room and fired thirteen shots from a 9mm pistol at those present.
Six people were shot during the attack. Treasurer Pablo Galazzo was killed instantly, and accountant Isaac López later died at a hospital from his injuries. Four additional employees were severely wounded and taken to hospital, where they later recovered. After the shooting, Villela fled on foot to his brother-in-law's house, where he attacked and injured the brother-in-law, before driving to a local police station to surrender.
Villela had sold his shares in the company and left in December 2005. Former colleagues described him as an aggressive man who sometimes yelled at coworkers, though he was also reported to have periods of depression. According to the case background, Villela believed he was owed AR$800,000 for the sale of eight buses after leaving the company, and had been told by former colleagues that he would not receive this money — a dispute reported as the motive for the attack.
On 4 May 2006, Villela was brought before a court and charged with two counts of homicide, four counts of attempted homicide, and illegal possession of a weapon of war. He stated he could not remember the attack and claimed he had intended only to return the pistol to the company, also denying he was owed any debt. A psychiatric evaluation, along with blood and urine testing conducted the day of the shooting, found that Villela was not intoxicated at the time of the attack.
In 2009, Villela stood trial before Oral Criminal Court 4 of San Martín. His defense argued he was mentally ill at the time and could not comprehend his actions. Surviving victims testified that Villela shot them, and then-treasurer José Laborde testified that Villela had threatened colleagues upon leaving the company. A witness also testified to hearing Villela admit to the crime as he surrendered. Psychologists and psychiatrists who evaluated Villela testified that he had no mental disorder and understood his actions. On 25 March 2009, Villela was found guilty on all charges. Prosecutors had sought a 40-year sentence, but the court imposed 32 years' imprisonment, citing his lack of prior criminal history as a mitigating factor.
