Background
Mauricio Schoklender, an industrial engineer, and Cristina Romano Silva married in 1955 and settled in Buenos Aires province, where their three children — Sergio, Pablo, and Ana Valeria — were born. In 1968 the family moved to an apartment in the Belgrano neighborhood of Buenos Aires, where the killings later occurred.
The Crime
At dawn on 30 May 1981, brothers Sergio and Pablo Schoklender killed their mother and then their father in the family's apartment, using a steel bar; they wrapped and concealed the bodies. The case, which became known as the Schoklender case, drew significant public attention in Argentina at the time.
Prosecution and Aftermath
Sergio and Pablo Schoklender were both convicted of the killings and sentenced to life imprisonment. Both were later released after serving part of their sentences.
