    Assassination of Pedro Eugenio Aramburu

    Former de facto Argentine President Pedro Eugenio Aramburu was kidnapped from his Buenos Aires apartment on 29 May 1970 by members of the far-left guerrilla group Montoneros and shot to death three days later on 1 June 1970.

    Disappearance of ARA San Juan

    The Argentine Navy submarine ARA San Juan disappeared in the South Atlantic on 15 November 2017 during a training exercise, with 44 crew members aboard. Despite a large multinational search, the vessel was not located until 16 November 2018, when the private company Ocean Infinity found its wreck at a depth of 907 metres. All 44 crew were lost.

    Disappearance of Tehuel de la Torre

    Tehuel de la Torre, a 21-year-old Argentine trans man, disappeared on 11 March 2021 after leaving his home in San Vicente, Buenos Aires, to meet a man who had offered him work as a waiter. His body has never been found. Luis Alberto Ramos was convicted of aggravated homicide motivated by hatred of gender identity and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2024; a co-accused, Oscar Alfredo Montes, faces a separate jury trial.

    Patagonian cannibal murders

    Between 1904 and 1909, dozens of immigrant peddlers from the Ottoman Empire vanished in rural Río Negro, Argentina, amid allegations of ritual cannibalism by a Mapuche community; over 70 people were arrested and charged, but the case collapsed after confessions were found to have been extracted through torture, and it remains unsolved.

    Death of Alberto Nisman

    Argentine special prosecutor Alberto Nisman was found shot dead in his locked Buenos Aires apartment hours before he was to present accusations against then-President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. A 2017 forensic report concluded he was murdered, contradicting earlier suicide claims, but no material perpetrators have been identified.

    Death of Facundo Astudillo Castro

    Facundo Astudillo Castro, a 22-year-old Argentine man, disappeared on 30 April 2020 after being stopped by police at a lockdown checkpoint while hitchhiking. His decomposed remains were found on 15 August 2020; an autopsy determined he drowned but could not establish homicide, suicide, or accident, and the case remains unresolved as to responsibility.

    Death of Santiago Maldonado

    Santiago Maldonado, an Argentine craftsman, disappeared on 1 August 2017 after Gendarmerie forces dispersed a Mapuche protest in Chubut Province; his body was found in the Chubut River in October 2017, with autopsies concluding death by drowning and hypothermia with no signs of violence, though his family continues to believe he was forcibly disappeared.

    Murder of Cecilia Strzyzowski

    Cecilia Strzyzowski, a 28-year-old woman from Resistencia, Chaco, Argentina, disappeared on 2 June 2023 after being seen entering the home of her partner César Sena. She was later found to have been murdered in a femicide involving Sena and members of his politically influential family, the "Sena Clan." In November 2025, six defendants were convicted of murder while one was acquitted.
