Illustrative

On April 13, 1994, a suicide bombing occurred on a passenger bus departing the central bus station in Hadera, Israel, bound for Tel Aviv. Five civilians were killed and 30 others were injured in the attack. The attack occurred on the Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day.

The bombing came exactly one week after another Hamas bus suicide bombing in Afula. According to Hamas's stated rationale at the time, both attacks were carried out as retribution for the Cave of the Patriarchs massacre, in which Baruch Goldstein killed Muslim worshippers in February of that year.

The explosive device used in the attack was built by Hamas bombmaker Yahya Ayyash, using approximately two kilograms of home-made acetone peroxide explosive. The individual selected to carry out the bombing was Amar Salah Diab Amarna, a 21-year-old from Ya'bad in the West Bank.

On the morning of the attack, Amarna boarded the 9:30 am bus to Tel Aviv. At approximately 9:40 am, as the bus was pulling out of the station, he placed the bag containing the bomb on the floor of the bus — positioned so that shrapnel could strike the groin area, where major arteries are located — and detonated it.

As Israeli rescue workers arrived at the scene of the explosion, a second pipe bomb detonated. Hamas subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack.

This dossier is based on a single detailed source (Wikipedia) describing the bombing, its perpetrator, its bombmaker, and the stated motive linking it to the earlier Cave of the Patriarchs massacre and the Afula bus bombing one week prior. No further independently verifiable details beyond those recounted in the source are included here.
