Between 2003 and 2010, Peter Mangs carried out a series of shootings in Malmö. Prosecutors alleged that he selected many targets because of racist and anti-immigrant beliefs. They charged him with three murders and twelve attempted murders.
The series included the 13 June 2003 killing of Kooros Effatian and the 10 October 2009 killing of Trez West Persson. Firas al-Shariah was also killed in 2003, but Mangs was not convicted of that death. Other people survived shootings during the series.
Police arrested Mangs in November 2010. The district court convicted him of two murders and four attempted murders and imposed life imprisonment in 2012. On 25 April 2013, the appellate judgment brought the final total to two murder convictions and eight attempted-murder convictions while leaving the life sentence in place. Sweden's Supreme Court declined a further appeal.
This dossier distinguishes the broader charging allegations from the narrower set proved in the final judgment.
