Violet Yacobi was a 67-year-old widow living in Beverly Hills, California. She was killed at her home on October 9, 2017, and found unresponsive below a staircase the next day. An autopsy concluded that she died from neck compression, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Beverly Hills police arrested Violet's son, Daniel Simon Yacobi, on February 12, 2018. Two days later, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charged him with murder and alleged a financial-gain special circumstance. At that stage, those allegations had not been proved, and Daniel Yacobi contested the case.
At trial in 2025, prosecutors presented digital, video, and forensic evidence concerning his presence at the home and the circumstances of Violet's death. The defense maintained that her death was accidental. On August 22, 2025, a jury convicted Daniel Yacobi of first-degree murder and found the financial-gain special circumstance true.
On October 3, 2025, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The conviction and sentence support a solved classification.
