On the morning of June 10, 2014, 14-year-old freshman Emilio Hoffman was fatally shot at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Oregon, near the end of the school year. A physical education teacher also suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The person identified as responsible was a 15-year-old student, armed with a rifle, a handgun, and a knife. He exchanged gunfire with a responding police officer before retreating into a school bathroom, where he fatally shot himself.
