Kiryat Menachem bus bombing

On the morning of November 21, 2002, at around 7:00 am, a public bus traveling on Mexico Street in Jerusalem was targeted in a suicide bombing. According to the case's Wikipedia article, the bomber, identified as Na'el Abu Hilail, a 22-year-old from el-Khader, just south of Bethlehem, boarded the bus wearing an explosives belt packed with five kilograms of explosives and shrapnel. He detonated the device while the bus was in the suburban neighborhood of Kiryat Menachem, before it reached its next stop.

The explosion killed 11 people and injured more than 50 others. Among the dead were four children who had been on their way to school at the time of the attack.

The Palestinian Islamist militant organization Hamas claimed responsibility for the bombing. Reporting cited in the article states that friends of the bomber described him as a supporter of Islamic Jihad, while his father reportedly expressed approval of his son's actions, stating that "our religion says we are proud of him until the day of resurrection."

No individuals connected to this attack have been named as charged, convicted, acquitted, or exonerated in the source material beyond identification of the bomber, who died in the attack. The case is treated as solved insofar as responsibility was claimed by Hamas and the perpetrator was identified by name in reporting.
