Overview
On 16 March 1988, during the Iran–Iraq War, the army of Ba'athist Iraq bombed the city of Kermanshah in western Iran. Among the targets was an air-raid shelter located in Shirin Park (Shirin park of Kermanshah). Iraqi forces reportedly used air-to-ground missiles against multiple localities in the city, but the strike on the Shirin Park shelter is described as the most severe of the attacks that day.
Casualties
According to Iranian media, 76 people were killed in the bombing of the Shirin Park shelter, the majority of them women and children. More than 200 additional people were reported injured as a result of the bombings on Kermanshah that day.
Documentation
The events, including survivor accounts of the shelter bombing, have been documented in a book titled "Panahgah-e Bi-Panah" (Shelterless Shelter), written by Mahnaz Fattahi, which highlights the memories of survivors of the attack.
