    A bomb detonated in the office of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar on 30 August 1981, killing Bahonar, President Mohammad-Ali Rajai, and several other officials, weeks after a separate bombing killed dozens of senior Iranian leaders.

    Between 1988 and 1998, more than 80 Iranian writers, translators, political activists and ordinary citizens critical of the Islamic Republic were killed or disappeared in a pattern of car crashes, stabbings, staged robberies and lethal injections, later attributed to rogue elements within Iran's Intelligence Ministry.

    Killing of Neda Agha-Soltan

    Neda Agha-Soltan, a 26-year-old Iranian philosophy student, was fatally shot in the chest in Tehran on 20 June 2009 while observing protests against the disputed re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Video of her death spread worldwide and became a rallying symbol for the opposition; no one has been convicted for her killing.

    2019 Khash–Zahedan suicide bombing

    A suicide car bombing on the Khash–Zahedan road in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan Province killed at least 27 Revolutionary Guards and wounded 13 on February 13, 2019, in one of Iran's deadliest attacks in years, claimed by the Salafi jihadist group Jaish al-Adl.

    Attack on Tasooki

    On March 16, 2006, gunmen from the Baloch militant group Jundallah, disguised as police, stopped vehicles on the Zabol-Zahedan road near Tasooki police station and killed 22 people, executing Shia male passengers after separating them from other travelers.

    2017 Tehran attacks

    On 7 June 2017, ISIL-affiliated attackers carried out coordinated attacks on Iran's Parliament building and the Mausoleum of Ruhollah Khomeini in Tehran, killing 17 civilians and wounding dozens; six assailants were killed and one was captured alive. Iran's Intelligence Ministry publicly identified five of them by name.

    Killing of Arash Kasravi

    Zoroastrian priest Arash Kasravi and two associates were found dead in Mahan, Kerman, Iran, in July 2020; Iranian authorities called it a financially motivated triple homicide but never released further findings, and the case remains unsolved as of 2025.
