    Lufthansa Flight 181

    In October 1977, four Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine militants hijacked Lufthansa Flight 181 "Landshut" to force the release of Red Army Faction prisoners; the captain was murdered in Aden, and West German GSG 9 commandos stormed the plane in Mogadishu, freeing all 87 passengers and remaining crew.

    Disappearance of Ikran Tahlil Farah

    Ikran Tahlil Farah, a Somali intelligence officer working in cybersecurity for NISA, was abducted near her home in Mogadishu on 26 June 2021 and has not been found. NISA later claimed she was killed by Al Shabaab after being handed over to them, an allegation Al Shabaab denied. Her disappearance triggered political disputes and calls for an independent investigation.

    On 21 February 2014, nine Al-Shabaab militants attacked Villa Somalia, the Somali presidential palace in Mogadishu, using a suicide car bomb to breach the gate before engaging guards in a shootout; all nine attackers and at least five Somali security personnel were killed.
