Hatun Sürücü, a 23-year-old Kurdish-German woman, was shot dead at a Berlin bus stop on 7 February 2005 by her youngest brother, Ayhan, in an honour killing that followed her divorce from a forced marriage and ignited nationwide debate over forced marriage and family violence in Germany's Turkish and Kurdish communities.

Marwa El-Sherbini, an Egyptian pharmacist and former national handball player, was fatally stabbed inside a Dresden courtroom on 1 July 2009 by Alex Wiens, the man she had testified against in an earlier verbal-abuse case; Wiens was convicted of her murder and the attempted murder of her husband and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Bavarian stage and television actor Walter Sedlmayr was found tied up, stabbed, and beaten to death in his Munich apartment in July 1990; two half-brothers and former business associates were convicted of his murder in 1993 and later became central figures in a legal dispute over privacy and internet name removal.

Between 2000 and 2007, the German neo-Nazi cell National Socialist Underground murdered nine small-business owners and a police officer in cities across Germany. After two of its three identified members were found dead of apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds in 2011, the third, Beate Zschäpe, was convicted of the killings in 2018 and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Niels Högel, a German nurse, was convicted of murdering 85 hospital patients between 1999 and 2005 by deliberately inducing cardiac emergencies with unauthorized medication, making him the most prolific convicted serial killer in German history; investigators have said his true victim total may be far higher.

German fashion designer Rudolph Moshammer was found strangled in his Munich-area mansion in January 2005; a 25-year-old Iraqi asylum seeker was arrested days later and ultimately sentenced to a minimum of 15 years to life for the killing.
