Between August 1991 and January 1992, a gunman Swedish media called 'Lasermannen' (the Laser Man) shot eleven people, most of them immigrants, in the Stockholm and Uppsala area, killing one and seriously wounding several others; he was identified as John Ausonius, arrested in June 1992, and sentenced to life imprisonment in January 1994.

Fadime Şahindal, a Kurdish-Swedish woman who publicly opposed her family's demand for an arranged marriage, was shot and killed by her father in Uppsala, Sweden, on 21 January 2002, in what Swedish courts and media described as an honour killing.

Tove Tönnies, a 21-year-old woman, was beaten and strangled to death in an apartment in Vetlanda, Sweden, in the early hours of 16 October 2022, after reconciling with an estranged friend following a fight at a nightclub earlier that night; her body was then burned in a wooded area and was not found for roughly three weeks. Johanna Jansson and Maja Hellman were convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment — the first women under 21 in Swedish history to receive that sentence — before an appeals court reduced Jansson's sentence to 16 years and released Hellman, who had already served the sentence handed down on appeal.
