On 31 July 1972, three car bombs exploded in the village of Claudy, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, killing nine civilians and injuring thirty. A 2010 Police Ombudsman report found that the RUC, British government and Catholic Church covered up the suspected involvement of a local priest, Fr James Chesney, in the attack.

Ann Ogilby, a 31-year-old Protestant single mother, was abducted and beaten to death on 24 July 1974 by members of the Sandy Row women's Ulster Defence Association (UDA) unit in Belfast, in a punishment killing following a paramilitary "kangaroo court." Eleven people were convicted in February 1975.

On 3 March 1991, Ulster Volunteer Force gunmen opened fire at Boyle's Bar in Cappagh, County Tyrone, killing three Provisional IRA members and a Catholic civilian. No one has ever been charged over the attack, which was widely attributed to loyalist figure Billy Wright.

Robert McCartney, a 33-year-old father of two, was beaten and stabbed to death outside a Belfast bar on 30 January 2005 by members of the Provisional IRA. Despite an estimated seventy witnesses, a wall of silence and an alleged forensic cover-up followed, and the only man charged with murder, Terence Davison, was acquitted in 2008.

On 7 March 2009, two off-duty British soldiers were shot dead and two other soldiers and two civilian delivery men were wounded outside Massereene Barracks in Antrim, Northern Ireland. The Real IRA claimed responsibility; one man was later convicted, acquitted on appeal, retried and found not guilty.

On 2 April 2011, 25-year-old PSNI constable Ronan Kerr was killed by a booby-trap car bomb outside his home near Omagh, County Tyrone. A dissident republican group claimed responsibility. Despite multiple arrests over several years, no one has been convicted.

On 6 December 1982, the Irish National Liberation Army detonated a time bomb at the Droppin Well disco in Ballykelly, County Londonderry, killing 17 people — 11 soldiers and six civilians — in one of the deadliest bombings of the Troubles.

On 12 April 1975, loyalist paramilitaries threw a bomb into the Strand Bar in Belfast's Short Strand, killing six Catholic civilians and injuring about fifty others during the Troubles.
