Sebilla Niemans, a Dutch prostitute and businesswoman known as Blonde Dolly, was found strangled in her home in The Hague in November 1959. Despite widespread speculation, the case was never solved and no one was ever charged.

Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, director of the film Submission, was fatally shot and stabbed while cycling to work in Amsterdam on 2 November 2004. Mohammed Bouyeri, a Dutch-Moroccan Islamist who objected to the film, was convicted of the murder on 26 July 2005 and sentenced to life imprisonment with no possibility of parole.

Her tax advisor, Ernest Louwes, was convicted of the killing in 2000, retried and convicted again in 2004 after the original forensic evidence was discredited, and released in 2009 after courts upheld the finding against him — though the case remains publicly disputed.

Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn, leader of the Pim Fortuyn List, was shot and killed in a car park in Hilversum on 6 May 2002, nine days before the general election. Volkert van der Graaf, an environmental and animal rights activist, was convicted of the assassination in April 2003 and sentenced to eighteen years in prison.

Dutch investigative journalist Peter R. de Vries was shot in central Amsterdam on 6 July 2021 as he left a television studio, and died of his injuries nine days later.
