    Murder of Eric Richins

    Utah real estate agent Kouri Richins fatally poisoned her husband, Eric Richins, with a lethal dose of fentanyl at their Kamas, Utah, home in March 2022, then published a children's grief book before her 2023 arrest. A jury convicted her in March 2026 of aggravated murder, attempted murder, forgery, and fraud, and she was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

    At midnight on July 8, 1945, American guard Clarence V. Bertucci opened machine-gun fire on sleeping German prisoners of war at Camp Salina, Utah, killing nine and wounding nineteen.

    On March 5, 1849, a militia of 35 Mormon settlers attacked a Timpanogos camp at Battle Creek Canyon near present-day Pleasant Grove, Utah, killing at least four Native American men in the first violent clash between settlers and the Timpanogos in Utah Valley.

    Salt Creek Canyon massacre

    On June 4, 1858, four Danish immigrants traveling to a Mormon settlement in Sanpete Valley, Utah, were ambushed and killed by unidentified Indigenous attackers in Salt Creek Canyon; a fifth member of the group escaped.

    Alta View Hospital hostage incident

    On September 20, 1991, Richard Worthington took hostages at gunpoint in the Women's Center of Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah, in an attempt to kill the doctor who had performed his wife's tubal ligation. During an eighteen-hour standoff, nurse Karla Roth was fatally shot after trying to disarm him; Worthington later surrendered and was convicted of her murder.

    Salt Lake City Public Library hostage incident

    On March 5, 1994, Clifford Lynn Draper took hostages at gunpoint on the second floor of the former Salt Lake City Public Library main branch, claiming to have a bomb. After a standoff of more than six hours, off-duty Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Lloyd Prescott shot and killed Draper, and a real but non-detonated bomb was later safely destroyed by police.
