Utah real estate agent Kouri Richins fatally poisoned her husband, Eric Richins, with a lethal dose of fentanyl at their Kamas, Utah, home in March 2022, then published a children's grief book before her 2023 arrest. A jury convicted her in March 2026 of aggravated murder, attempted murder, forgery, and fraud, and she was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Married couple Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner were found shot to death near their campsite outside Moab, Utah, in August 2021; in December 2022 authorities closed the case, naming Adam Pinkusiewicz, who had died by suicide, as the murderer.

On September 20, 1991, Richard Worthington took hostages at gunpoint in the Women's Center of Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah, in an attempt to kill the doctor who had performed his wife's tubal ligation. During an eighteen-hour standoff, nurse Karla Roth was fatally shot after trying to disarm him; Worthington later surrendered and was convicted of her murder.

On March 5, 1994, Clifford Lynn Draper took hostages at gunpoint on the second floor of the former Salt Lake City Public Library main branch, claiming to have a bomb. After a standoff of more than six hours, off-duty Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Lloyd Prescott shot and killed Draper, and a real but non-detonated bomb was later safely destroyed by police.
