Paige Birgfeld, a 34-year-old mother of three, disappeared from Grand Junction, Colorado, on June 28, 2007. Her burned car was found days later, and investigators discovered she had been secretly working as an escort. Her remains were found in 2012, and in 2016 a former client, Lester Ralph Jones, was convicted of her kidnapping and murder.

On March 22, 2021, a gunman killed ten people, including an on-duty police officer, at a King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, Colorado. The shooter was arrested at the scene and, in September 2024, was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
