Scott Amedure, 32, was shot and killed at his Lake Orion, Michigan mobile home on March 9, 1995, by Jonathan Schmitz, three days after Amedure revealed a secret same-sex crush on Schmitz during a taping of The Jenny Jones Show. Schmitz was convicted of second-degree murder.

Tara Lynn Grant, a 34-year-old Michigan mother of two, was strangled by her husband Stephen Grant in February 2007 after an argument; he later dismembered her body, briefly fled, and confessed to police. He was convicted of second-degree murder in December 2007 and sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Her husband, Dale John Warner, was charged with her murder in November 2023; her remains were found on his property in August 2024, and in 2026 he was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 70 years in prison.

Jane Bashara, a Grosse Pointe Park marketing executive, was found strangled in the back seat of her own Mercedes-Benz SUV in a Detroit alley in January 2012. Her husband, Bob Bashara, was later convicted of orchestrating the murder using a mentally impaired handyman, Joseph Gentz, and was sentenced to life without parole.

On September 11, 2009, anti-abortion activist Jim Pouillon was shot and killed while protesting outside Owosso High School in Owosso, Michigan. The same gunman, Harlan James Drake, also fatally shot businessman Michael Fuoss at a separate location that morning. Drake was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to two life terms.
