David Lynn Harris, an orthodontist in Friendswood, Texas, was struck and run over by his wife Clara Suarez Harris in a hotel parking lot on July 24, 2002, after she confronted him over an extramarital affair. She was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

On February 2, 2013, author Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield were shot to death at a Texas shooting range by Eddie Ray Routh, a Marine veteran they were trying to help. Routh was convicted of capital murder in 2015 and sentenced to life without parole.

Aaron Howard, 37, was fatally shot outside his Abilene, Texas home on September 1, 2018, by his neighbor Johnnie Dee Allen Miller and Miller's son Michael, following a dispute over a discarded mattress. Johnnie Miller was convicted of first-degree murder in 2023; Michael Miller was found not guilty.

Jennifer Cave, a 21-year-old legal assistant, was shot and killed in August 2005 in the Austin, Texas apartment of Colton Pitonyak, who then partially dismembered her body. Pitonyak was convicted of murder in 2007 and sentenced to 55 years; his former girlfriend Laura Ashley Hall was convicted of tampering with evidence and hindering apprehension.

On October 16, 1991, George Pierre Hennard drove a pickup truck into a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, and opened fire, killing 23 people and wounding 27 before dying by suicide during a shootout with police.

Farah Fratta, 33, was shot and killed outside her Atascocita, Texas home on November 9, 1994, in a murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by her estranged husband, police officer Robert Fratta, amid a contentious divorce and custody dispute. Fratta, middleman Joseph Prystash, and gunman Howard Guidry were all convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death. Fratta was executed in January 2023; Prystash died on death row in 2025; Guidry remains on death row.

On March 31, 1995, singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was fatally shot at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas, by Yolanda Saldívar, the former president of her fan club and manager of her boutiques, following a dispute over embezzled funds. Saldívar was convicted of murder and sentenced to 30 years to life.

On September 6, 2018, off-duty Dallas police officer Amber Guyger entered the wrong apartment and fatally shot 26-year-old accountant Botham Jean, who was unarmed in his own home. Guyger was convicted of murder in October 2019 and sentenced to 10 years; the conviction was upheld on appeal, and in 2024 a civil jury awarded Jean's family $98.65 million.

Alexis Sharkey, a 26-year-old social media influencer, was found strangled near her Houston home in November 2020. Her husband, Thomas Sharkey, was identified by police as a suspect and died by suicide in October 2021 as officers arrived to arrest him.
