Mackenzie Cowell, a 17-year-old Washington high school senior, went missing after leaving her cosmetology school in Wenatchee in February 2010 and was found strangled and stabbed on the banks of the Columbia River four days later. Classmate Christopher Scott Wilson was arrested after DNA evidence linked him to the crime and later pleaded guilty to manslaughter, serving just over 14 years before his release in 2023.

On August 10, 2018, a Horizon Air ground service agent stole an empty Q400 aircraft from Sea-Tac Airport, flew it for over an hour while in contact with air traffic control, and deliberately crashed it into sparsely populated Ketron Island, dying by suicide with no other injuries.

On May 30, 2012, Ian Lee Stawicki, identified as the perpetrator, killed four people at Café Racer in Seattle's University District, then fatally shot another woman during a carjacking on First Hill before dying by suicide in West Seattle later that day.

Martha Morrison, a 17-year-old from Portland, Oregon, disappeared in September 1974; her remains, found alongside those of Carol Platt Valenzuela near Vancouver, Washington, went unidentified for over 40 years until DNA testing confirmed her identity in 2015. Warren Leslie Forrest was later charged and, in February 2023, convicted of her murder.

On September 23, 2016, a gunman opened fire inside a Macy's store at Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington, killing five people. The perpetrator, Arcan Cetin, was arrested the next day, confessed, and was charged with aggravated murder; he died by suicide in jail in April 2017 before trial.
