Xie Tianqin, a 47-year-old middle school teacher in Fuzhou, China, was killed by her son Wu Xieyu on 10 July 2015. He concealed the murder for months, defrauded relatives of 1.44 million yuan, and evaded capture for nearly three years before being arrested in 2019 and executed in 2024.

In March 1994, a tour boat on Qiandao Lake in Zhejiang, China, was hijacked and set on fire, killing all 32 people aboard, including 24 Taiwanese tourists, six Chinese crew, and two Chinese tour guides. The case became a major diplomatic crisis between Taiwan and China after local authorities were accused of concealing information.

In October 2010, waitress Zhang Miao was struck by a car in Xi'an, China, and then fatally stabbed eight times by the driver, Yao Jiaxin, who feared she would seek compensation; Yao was convicted of murder and executed in June 2011.

On 18 February 2003, Guo Zhongmin killed 13 people across three homes in Gaoheshanggou village, Huludao, China, in an attack stemming from a land dispute, before dying by suicide five days later as police closed in.

Wu Shuoyan, a 37-year-old shop worker, was beaten to death inside a McDonald's in Zhaoyuan, Shandong, China, on 28 May 2014 after she refused to give her phone number to a group of six. Members of the group claimed a religious justification, calling her an "evil spirit"; five adults were tried and convicted, with two executed, while a sixth member, a minor, was not tried.

On the night of 18 November 1995, two men opened fire on residents across several villages in Sizhan Town, part of Zhaodong, Heilongjiang, China, killing 32 people and wounding 16 others before one suspect was shot dead by security forces and the other died by suicide.

On 9 August 2008, during the Beijing Olympics, Tang Yongming, identified by investigators as the attacker, stabbed an American couple and their Chinese tour guide at the historic Drum Tower, killing Todd Bachman and severely wounding his wife Barbara Bachman and the guide, before jumping to his death from the tower.
